Matecor NEW

MATECOR

A herbicide with contact and residual action for the control of weeds in early and main crop potatoes.

Controls weeds in early main crop potatoes.

Effective against a wide range of annual broad-leaved weeds.

Compatible in tank mixes with other herbicides.

Low dose rate makes the product economical.

*Do not apply MATECOR NEW to Maris Piper grown on sandy or very light soils.

Soil types and conditions

The residual activity of MATECOR NEW may be reduced on peaty and organic soils and on mineral soils with high organic matter content.

MATECOR NEW should not be used on sandy soils.

The seed-bed should be moist and clod free when the potatoes are planted with a good tilth and rounded ridges. No further improvements should be made after planting as this will stimulate germination of weed seeds and may reduce the effectiveness of MATECOR NEW. Dry soil conditions may also reduce the effectiveness.

On peaty soils and organic and minerals soils with a high organic matter content the residual effect of MATECOR NEW can be reduced.

Do not apply MATECOR NEW pre-emergence to Maris Piper when grown on sandy or light soils. Also, do not treat Maris Piper post-emergence with MATECOR NEW.

Consult the label for details.

WEEDS

The following table shows the weeds controlled by MATECOR NEW. Post-emergence control (application rates of 0.35 to 0.5kg/ha) is at up to 1 expanded true leaf of the weed, however most annual broad-leaved weeds will be controlled beyond this stage.

Perennial grasses and perennial broad-leaved weeds

MATECOR NEW does not control perennial grasses or perennial broad-leaved weeds. Therefore, if potato follows grass, suitable herbicide(s)/cultivations should be employed to kill the sward in the autumn. Weeds which then subsequently germinate can be controlled by MATECOR NEW. MATECOR NEW will suppress common couch when applied post-emergence up to the two leaf stage but it should be noted that some residual couch herbicides can persist for long periods especially on organic soils and MATECOR NEW is not recommended to be used where there is a possibility of such residues remaining in the soil.

+Where the soil is dry or in clods it is advisable to increase the water volume

Apply pre- or post-emergence and ensure both sides of the potato ridge are evenly covered. Filters should be a minimum of size 80 mesh, finer meshes may become clogged.

In the case of main crop post-emergence spraying ensure the spray penetrates the canopy, to reach weeds growing under the growing crop.

Soil Incorporation of MATECOR NEW

Pre-planting

Soils containing more than 10% organic matter and dry mineral soils: MATECOR NEW should be incorporated into the top 10-15 cm of soil at a rate of 0.75kg/ha during the final cultivation. This increases the activity of MATECOR NEW and is particularly advantageous for pre-emergence application.

Suitable cultivators are rotary or spring-tine harrows or rotary cultivators. After planting, ridging up should occur as soon as possible and should only include treated soil. A final ridging up may be made before the crop meets across the rows.

For maincrop potatoes recommended for post-emergence application grown in a two-row bed, a follow up post-emergence treatment of up to 0.5kg/ha can be applied which gives useful control of late germinating weeds particularly in the furrows.

Post-planting

Tubers should be placed in shallow ridges and 0.75kg/ha MATECOR NEW applied and then incorporated during the final ridging up process. For use on second early potatoes only apply where soil organic matter is greater than 10%

A further application of 0.5kg/ha MATECOR NEW post-emergence to recommended main crop varieties may be required to control late germinating weeds.

Post-emergence applications

Only for use on recommended main crop varieties. One application of MATECOR NEW (0.35-0.5kg/ha) is recommended until weeds reach the cotyledon stage and the potato shoots are less than 15cm long. This application should not be used for seed crops.

Following crops

Mould-board ploughing to a minimum depth of 15cm should be carried out before planting or drilling a following crop and it is recommended that this is done immediately after harvest of the potato crop and at the very latest before the end of December. After application of MATECOR NEW the following intervals must be observed before drilling or planting crops:
